BP Case Study Flashcards
Roles in Energy
Seeking new oil reserves + continually researching them
Pays many countries ‘oil revenue’ to drill their oil (has backups if reserve fails)
Moves unrefined oil to ‘safe’ countries e.g. Saudi Arabia to USA
-This ensures production is uninterrupted
Positives of having BP operate in a country
Income from oil revenues and selling drilling rights
Jobs created in transport and drilling departments
BP may improve an areas infrastructure to operate effectively
Creates trade links with HICs so able to develop other exports
Negatives of having BP in a country
Jobs created but they’re low skill, low pay
-BP reserves best jobs for own workers
Creates economic inequality in a country as it may cause some individual to get extremely rich, while most stay poor, creating conflict
Oil supplies used faster than want, future energy insecurity?
