bovine respiratory diseases Flashcards
2 respiratory paramyxoviridae viruses that affect cattle
RNA viruses
Bovine respiratory syncytial virus
parainfluenza virus 3
hepresivirus that affect bovine respiratory (DNA)
Bovine herpes virus 1
also known as IBR- infectious bronchitis
flaviridae that affects bovine respiritory (RNA)
Bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD)
what protein induces fusion between viral envelope and target cells in paramoxyviridae
G protein in BRSV
HN glycoproteins in parainfluenza virus 3
features of BRSV
2-8 days incubation
sheds for 2-3 weeks
interstitial pneumonia
interstitial emphysema
what is seen histologically in BRSV
formation of multinucleated giant cells including eosinophilic inclusion bodies
PI3 disease?
bronchitis and bronchiolitis
alveolar cells thickening and hyperplasia
what is seen histologically in PI3
intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies seen around dy 5-7 of infection
features of IBR (infectious bovine rhinotracheitis)
neurotropic and latent infection
cattle 6-18 months old mostly affected
inflammation and necrosis of URT leaves animal vulnerable to secondary infections
how does BVD affect the respiratory system
Destroys alveloar macrophages and deplets lymphoid tissue!
Remember
non pregnant when infected=transient infection then immunity
1st month preg=embryo death
2-4th month preg=persistently infected calf
5-9th month preg=normal calf
name bacterial diseases of respiratory tract in cattle
Pasturella mycoplasma bovis (TB)
3 genuses of pasturella
Manhaemia haemolytica (shipping fever) pasturella multicoida histophilus somni (commensal in genital, thrombus formation and histamine release in GI)
what does bovine TB cause
cuffing pneumonia
septic arthritis
otitis media (middle ear infection)
mastits
generally what disease does pasturella cause
fibrinous pleurisy
intra alveolar fibrin deposition
name Ovine respiratory virus (2)
Ovine pulmonary adenocarcinoma (wheelbarrow disease)
