Characteristics & Themes: The author’s exhortation is always firmly fixed in his eschatology: Continue in the faith, holding fast to Christ, is not for fear of present consequences, but because by shrinking back one forfeits the eternal rest and exposes oneself eventually to God’s fearful judgment and consuming fire. The concern of the cost of discipleship in their failure to mature as teachers of truth. A pastoral response conveying a word from God addressed to the harsh reality of life in an insecure world.
