Purpose of spongy bone?
A
Vascularly innervated (red), takes a lot of stress
Surrounded by stronger, compact bone
Ideal site for metabolic activity, such as ion and nutrient exchange
Often contains red marrow, site for RBC production

Purpose of lymphatic system?
A
To collect fluid in interstitial spaces and drain into venous system
- spleen=big lymph node/ filters and other functions
- lymphocyte production mainly in bone barrow, move and mature in thymus
