Osteoblasts form new bone and are often found on the surface of bone and osteoclasts dissolve old bone tissue
What three minerals can be found in bones?
Sodium, calcium and phosphorus
What is collagen?
A protein that allows bones to resist tension
What is cortical bone and cancellous bone?
Cortical is dense bone and cancellous is spongy
What is red bone marrow and yellow bone marrow?
Red marrow creates blood cells and yellow marrow is mostly fat cells
Why do we have bones?
To provide support, protect organs, help us move, store minerals, and produce blood cells
What are the four kinds of joints?
Hinge, pivot, ball and socket, gliding

Connects bone to bone
What is a tendon
Connects muscle to bone
What is a greenstick fracture?
A partial fracture where the bone doesn’t completely break
What is a hairline fracture?
When the bone fragments remain in aligment
What is an open/compound fracture?
When the bone fully breaks and punctures the skin
What is the difference between sprain and strain?
Sprain is the tear or stretching of a ligament and strain is the tear or stretching of a tendon or muscle
What is the separation of two bones where they meet at a joint?
Dislocation
What is osteoporosis?
A disease when bones become fragile
What is scoliosis?
Curve in the spine
What is arthritis?
Inflammation of a joint causing swelling
What is osteoarthritis?
The breakdown of joint cartilage
