Bone Histology Flashcards
What are the four components of the skeletal system?
Support
protection
movement storage
blood cell production
What are three types of cartilage?
Fibrocartilage
elastic cartilage
hyaline cartilage
What do chondroblasts do?
Produce cartilage - produce Matrix surrounding themselves
What is a chondrocyte?
Blast that is completely surrounded by matrix and space called lacunae
What does the Matrix of chondrocyte contain?
Collagen (strength) and proteoglycans (trap water)
What is a perichondrium?
Connective tissue sheath covering most cartilage - contains blood vessels and nerves
What type of tissue is the perichondrium?
Dance irregular connective tissues
How does cartilage grow?
Appositional
Interstitial
What are the five shapes of Bones?
Flat short long irregular sesamoid
What are three major components of the structure of bone?
Diaphysis
epiphysis
epiphyseal
What is a medullary cavity?
Diaphysis filled with marrow red and yellow
What is periosteum?
Connective tissue membrane that covers the outer surface of bone made of dense irregular collagenous connective tissue
What is an endosteum?
Connective tissue membrane that lines the internal surface of all bones cavities
Organic Matrix
Made of collagen and proteoglycans
