Intramembranous Ossification

A

“bone growth within a membrane.” It’s also called dermal ossification. Intra-membrane is ossification produces the flat bones of the skull, some of the facial bones, the mandible, and the essential parts of the clavicle.

  1. ossification centers from within thickened regions of mesenchyme beginning at the eighth week of development.
  2. osteoid undergoes calcification.
  3. woven bone and its surrounding periosteum form
  4. lamellar bone replaces woven bone, as compact bone spongy bone forms.

Ossification begins with a hyaline cartilage model and produces most bones of the skeleton, including the upper and lower limbs, The pelvis, vertebrae, And the ends of the clavicle.
