Bone and mineral disorders Flashcards
Bisphosphonates moa?
- stabilize hydroxyapatite bone structure
- stimulate osteoblasts to secrete inhibitory chemokines that inhibit osteoclast degradation of bone
Bisphosphonates areas of use?
- Pagets disease of bone
- Postmenopausal osteoporosis
Pamidronate and etidronate are both?
bisphosphonates
what is the principle cell of an osteosarcoma?
the osteoblast.
HMmmmm…. do bisphosphonates increase risk?
Teriparatide moa?
Recombinant analogue of PTH: administration once daily stimulates osteoblast and new bone formation. Continous infusion would stimulate osteoclasts and bone degradation
Teriparatide side effects?
never use for longer than 2 yrs; increased risk of sarcoma
Etanercept moa?
Binds with TNF and prevent inflammation. Used in gout.
Probenecid moa in gout? .
Binds with proximal tubule transporters, thereby preventing reuptake of uric acid.
