Bonding Flashcards
metallic bonding:
the electrostatic force of attraction between the metal ions and the delocalised electrons
delocalised electrons:
electrons that are free to move and carry charge through th structure
covalent bonding:
bond consisting of (a) shared pair(s) of electrons
compound oxyanions:
-vely charged ions where oxygen is bonded to the central atom
-ve charge will be located on the oxygen atom
ionic bonding:
the electrostatic force between oppositely charged ions
isoelectronic:
species with the same number of electrons but different nuclear charge
isoelectronic:
species with the same number of electrons but different nuclear charged
dative covalent bonds:
when both bonding electrons come from one atom
(chemically and physically identical to a covalent bond)
