Increase angle on anterior/ posterior plane
Closer to 180 degrees
Hyperextend
Increase angle to greater than 180 degrees
Hyperextension occurs naturally in:
Neck, hip, wrist
Lateral movements:
1) abduction
2) adduction
Abduction
Moves body part away from midline of body
Adduction
Moves body part closer to midline of body
Movement of feet
1) dorsiflex
2) plantar flex
Dorsiflex
Raise toes off of ground
Plantar flex
Raise heels off of ground
Movement of hands
1) pronate
2) supinate
Pronate
Turn palm of hand posteriorly
Supinate
Turn palm of hand anteriorly
Elevate
Raise body part of body
Depress
Lower body part
Protract
Stick body part out
Retract
Return part to anatomical position
