Ps consented and greeted by stern Dutch experimenter. Ps were asked to volunteer friends to take part in a traumatic study. ps were asked to write a statement to persuade their friends to participate-write nothing negative. The experimenter left the room were they could either obey and write the statement, refuse altogether, or write a complaint to an ethics committee (whistleblow). They were then fully debriefed.
