Paramedic Conduct Standard
The paramedic shall… (11)

- Conserve life, alleviate pain and suffering, and promote health
- Protect and maintain patient safety, dignity and privacy
- Provide care based on human needs with respect to dignity
- Demonstrate empathy and compassion for patients and their families
- Provide care until it is no longer required or until another qualified healthcare professional has accepted responsibility for patient care
- Discharge his/her duties with honesty, diligence, efficiency and integrity

- Attempt to establish and maintain good working relationships with other professional colleagues

- Maintain familiarity with current legislation and practice, and strive to work to their fullest extent of his/her competencies
- Report any incompetent, illegal or unethical conduct by colleagues or other healthcare professionals to the ambulance service operator or base hospital

- Practice beyond his/her level of certification
- Refuse or neglect to serve persons requiring services that are part of his/her normal duties
- Falsify documentation
- Misrepresent qualifications or credentials
- Threaten or use violent behavior
- Take or posses drugs from the ambulance service without authorization
- Disclose confidential information to anyone
- Have any form of inappropriate sexual contact, relations or impropriety with a patient
- Engage in and other conduct unbecoming of a paramedic

- Information obtained through ones position as a paramedic which is not available to the public in general

General Measures Standard
The paramedic shall… (16)
A
- On receipt on call, confirm call info with CACC
- Use appropriate speed and route to call, use seatbelts, use lights and sirens responsibly
- On arrival: Assess scene, park ambulance in a safe place as close to the point of patient contact as possible, identify access and egress routes
- Ensure call environment is safe.
- If danger exists on scene, inform CACC and/or request allied agencies
- Bring all equipment required to establish baseline vital signs and perform defib, to patient side
- Use call and scene information to determine necessary equipment to be brought to patient side
- If there is more than one patient, contact CACC
- Utilize PPE as per Patient Care and Transportation Standards
- Identify and introduce themselves to patients
- Obtain consent for care
- Use proper, effective communication techniques
- Protect the patient from hazards and exposure to adverse enviroments
- Reference Transport Canada emergency response guidebook if responding to a scene invloving hazardous materials
- Ensure safe disposal of equipment (sharps)
- Perform hand hygiene
