blot transfer techniques Flashcards
1
Q
blot transfer is………
A
techniques used for visualization of DNA, RNA or protein in thousands of molecules.
2
Q
what is the meaning of polymorphisms?
A
is the difference in the sequence of DNA fragment
3
Q
RFLP in full and meaning
A
is restriction fragment length polymorphism.
is inherited difference in the pattern of restriction sites.
4
Q
blot transfer techniques
A
- south blot: transfer used in determining the number of copies of a gene present in a given tissue and mutations in the gene.
- northern blot transfer technique is used to size and quantitate specific RNA molecules.
- western blots: technique is used to size and quantitate specific protein molecules. Western blots are currently being used as one of the tests for the AIDS virus. In this case, the presence of viral proteins in the blood is detected by antibodies.
