Blood vessels - cardiovascular system Flashcards
Blood is a connective tissue, what is it divided into?
55 percent plasma, 45 percent red blood cell (Erythrocytes), <1percent white blood cells and platelets
What is albumin?
Big protein that is responsible for the maintenance of appropriate osmotic pressure, binding and transporting of various substances like hormones.
Where is the protein albumin?
The plasma
What are fibrinogens?
Protein that holds platelets together which helps clot the blood.
Where is the protein fibrinogen found?
In the plasma
What is plasma made out of?
91% water, 7% proteins such as albumin, 2% nutrients such as glucose, amino acid and hormones.
How much blood do the coroted arteries take to the brain?
About 70 percent
How many main arteries are there?
6
What blood vessel can regulate how much blood goes to each organ and can dictate where the blood needs to go?
Arteries
How big is a red blood cell in diameter?
8 micron
What is another name for a red blood cell?
Erythrocytes
What do the erythrocytes do?
Go through the capillaries to pick up oxygen and carbon dioxide
Whats another name for a white blood cell?
Lymphocyte
How thick is the red blood cell?
one cell thick
What does sickle cell do the the erthrocytes?
makes the cells abnormally shaped meaning less oxygen can be picked up.
