Considerations in Blood Pressure cuffing:
A
- if the cuff is too big, the pressure reading is LOW
- if the cuff is too small, the pressure reading is HIGH
- should be placed over brachial artery

Kortokoff Sounds
A
- sounds you can hear during measuring
- first sound is systolic
- then the swishing starts
- then there will be crisp knocking sounds
- the sounds are muffled
- the last sound is the diastole

Factors that affect BP
A
- emotion and pain
- laying on the left side can cause lower BP
- crossing of legs can cause higher BP
- drugs
- FULL BLADDER can cause higher BP
- age
- gender
- exercise

Postural Hypotension
A
sudden but temporary drop in BP when rising

- high BP
- associated with anxiety, obesity, and vascular disease

- generally good
- can be caused by too much BP medications
