Blood pressure and kidney Flashcards
1
Q
Done this on paper
A
pleas read them
2
Q
What causes a reduction in effective arterial blood volume?
A
- heart failure
- liver cirrhosis
- renal artery stenosis
- nephrotic syndrome
3
Q
Why does oedema occur in hypertension?
A
high hydrostatic pressure causes fluid to overcome out of the cell
4
Q
Why would someone with septic shock get low blood pressure?
A
because there is systemic vasodilation
5
Q
Would someone with low blood pressure become oedamatous?
A
potentially as in sepsis, the vasodilation causes leaky capillaries which will cause low blood pressure because of loss of volume
- as BP is dropped, water and sodium retention occurs to try and increase it
- as BP increases, more fluid will be pushed out because the high pressure causes more fluid to leak
- this also increases your ECF volume
- can get worse if you give a patient lots of IV fluids
- would give diuretics here
