Blood loss or Shock Flashcards
1
Q
What Is Sepsis?
A
Life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to an infection
2
Q
What is septic shock?
A
More severe form sepsis in which circulatory, cellular, and metabolic abnormalities are associated with a greater risk of mortality than with sepsis alone’
3
Q
What Is the SOFA score?
A
The sequential organ failure assessment score (for sepsis)
Used in ICU to determine the extent of a person’s organ function or rate of failure
4
Q
What can be used alternately to the SOFA score outside the ICU?
A
qSOFA
- Respiratory rate > 22/min
- Altered mentation
- Systolic blood pressure < 100 mm Hg
5
Q
Interpret the values of the qSOFA score
A
Heightened risk of mortality if qSOFA ≥ 2
