Blood glucose levels Flashcards
What happens if blood glucose levels are too high
If blood glucose levels are too high
1) the pacreas gland detects that blood glucose levels are too high
2) The pancreas gland releases the hormone insulin
3) insulin travels in the bloodstream to body cells and liver
4) body cells take in more glucose for respiration and the liver takes in excess glucose and stores it as glycogen
5) blood glucose levels are lowered and return to normal homeostatic levels
What happens if blood glucose levels are too low
If blood glucose levels are too low
1) The pancreas gland detects that blood glucose levels are too low
2) The pancreas gland releases the hormone glucagon
3) glucagon travels in the bloodstream to the liver(which has a store of glucose)
4) The liver converts is glycogen back to glucose
5) blood glucose levels rise back to homeostatic levels
