Tropical virus risk country (4-6 months)
Donation process
Skin sanitised
30min blood inc, skin plug aliquoted into sample tubes
450mls into bag containing CPD-1 (citrate phosphate dextrose) stop clotting, feed cells
Labelled with donation number
Transported to blood centre
Large bore needle (shield forces)
Mandatory donation tests
Antibody screen
Phenotyping Rh + K systems and others
HT screen
Further test for neonatal units
Microbiology
Detect Hep B+C+E, HIV,HLTV + syphilis
Bacterial monitoring of platelets
Transfusion transmissible infections
Hepatitis C
Hepatitis B
Hepatitis E
