Q

erythrocytes adaptions to function

A
  1. biconcave shape
-provides large surface area for easy diffusion
  2. small size
-the haemoglobin contents is close to the cell membrane and allows for easier diffusion
  3. no nucleus/ cell organelles
-theres more room for more haemoglobin to fit into so more oxygen can be carried around
  4. plicable membrane
-allows to fit through narrow lumens and capillaries
  5. large surface area

7
Q

simple difference between a monocyte and polymorph and lymphocyte in terms of life span and productions

A
  • polymorphs are shortlived and kill pathogens by phagocytosis at the site of infection

-monocytes are long lived and stay at site of infection for a while then tracel to body tissue to kill pathogens by phagocytosis

  • lymphocytes product antibodies for protection as an immune response
  • **produce memory cells ** for long lasting antigen immunity
