What are the six things you must always think about when taking an overall approach of creating a design concept for a production
1- staging for the actors - space
2- the locations in the play
3- context of the play - historical/social
4- style and genres of performance
5- image, colour, texture, lighting, sound etc
6- props, furniture
When writing about your design concept what would you include
(7 things)
Staging type - what kind of stage and why
Set design- images, constructs,time, context
Costume- style,fabrics,colours, textures
Lighting- gobos, colours, intensity, focused
Sound - live, technological, volume
Specials - projections, smoke effects
What must you ALWAYS REMEMBER when thinking of your design concept
You have to remember the SIGNIFICANCE of the particular scene and wether it is worth being elaborate if the scene only has a short duration.
What must you always be when writing about your chosen point of your design concept
You have to be EXTREMELY SPECIFIC and go into DETAIL about EVERYTHING
What must you do after describing your design concept
Explain WHY you have done it in that particular way and what EFFECT it CREATES for the audience.
Also always remember to fit the design concept of the extract into the REST OF THE PLAY as well as the context of the narrative and the socioeconomic context of individual characters.
