Blood and shock 19 Flashcards

1
Q

What is the bodies natural response to bleeding?

A

Blood vessles will constrict (serious injuries can prevent this) and clotting will start

Q

Describe the first class of hemorrhage

A
  • 15% blood loss
  • body constricts vessels
  • Pt remainds alert
  • BP remains in normal limits
  • Pulse remains in normal limits/ slightly increased but still strong
  • RR,Skin color and temp remain normal

Q

Describe class 2 hemorrhage and its effects on the Pt

A
  • 30% blood loss
  • vasoconstriciton maintains BP with some difficulty
  • blood flow shuts down to vital organs
  • Decreased flow to kidneys, intestines, and skin
  • Pt may become confused and restless
  • skin turns pale, cool+ dry due to shutting down vital organs
  • DBP may increase or decrease, likely to increase to due vasoconstriction
  • Pulse pressure, the difference in SBP and DBP decreases
  • rapid HR due to Sympathetic response
  • Increased RR die to sympathetic response
  • delayed capillary refill

Q

What is class 3 hemorrhage and its effects on PT

A
  • 40% loss
  • vasoconstriction cant maintain BP
  • cardiac output/tissue ferfusion continues to decrease
  • Pt becomes more confused, restless, and anxious
  • classic signs of shock appear
  • increase(rapid) HR and RR
  • decreased BP
  • cool clammy extremities

Q

What is class 4 hemmorhage and the effects on the PT

A
  • more than 40% loss
  • vaso now is an issues- furthers imparing tissue perfusion and celluar oxygenation
  • Pt is lethargic droswy and styorous
  • signs of shock are more pronouced
  • Bp continues to fall
  • Lack of Blood flow to brain and other vital organs
  • Organ failure and death

Q

What are the 3 types of external bleed and describe them

A
  • Arterial bleeding:bright red blood, spurting from wound, severed/damaged artery arteries are hard to stop due to the increase pressure
  • Venous bleeding:dark red blood, flows steadly, severed/damged vein
  • Capillary bleeding:dark red blood, oozes slowly from wound, usually clots spontainously, increased threat of infection
