Blood and Nerve supply to abdominal organs Flashcards
what forms the aortic hiatus?
the left and right crura of the diaphragm
is the aorta intra or retroperitoneal?
retro
What vertebral level does the aorta bifurcate at?
L4
-splits into left and right common iliac arteries
What big vein crosses the aorta anteriorly?
the left renal v.
What is an abdominal aortic aneurysm?
dilation of the aorta
- primarily due to atherosclerosis
- presents as pulsatile abdominal mass that grows w/ time
- aorta should never be larger than 3 cm
Where do we see the celiac trunk come off?
immediately inferior to the aortic hiatus at T12-L1
What are the 3 major branches of the celiac trunk?
- left gastric a
- common hepatic a.
- splenic a.
What surrounds the base of the celiac trunk?
the celiac plexus and ganglion
What do the branches of the celiac trunk supply?
derivatives of the foregut and the spleen
-remember that the spleen is not part of the the digestive tube
What are the branches off of the left gastric a.
- esohageal branches
- L gastric anastamoses with the right gastric along the lesser curvature of the stomach
What are the branches of the splenic A.
short gastric, left gastroomental, and pancreatic branches (split into dorsal and inferior branches
What ligament is the splenic A. in?
the splenorenal L.
What ligament is the short gastric a. in?
the gastrosplenic L.
okay, this one makes sense because this is a branch off of the SPLENIC artery and it is going to the STOMACH
What are the 2 main arteries that the common hepatic a. branches into?
proper hepatic and gastroduodenal
What does the proper hepatic A. branch into?
- right gastric a. (anastamoses with left gastrci on the lesser curvature)
- right and left hepatic A.’s (cystic a. comes off of right)
What does the gastroduodenal a. branch into?
right gastroomental and superior pancreaticoduodenal
-may give off supraduodenal a.
If the abdominal aorta is blocked between the celiac trunk and the SMA, what will be the vessels compensating for that?
SPDA and IPDA
What two vessels come together to form the portal vein?
the splenic v and SMV
-splenic or IMV?
What drains the liver itself?
the hepatic veins
-not the portal vein
What surrounds the structures of the portal triad?
hepatoduodenal ligament
-the other part of the lesser omentum is the hepatogastric ligament
What branch of the aorta is located posterior tot he hepatogastric L. within the lesser peritoneal sac?
the celiac trunk
What is the typical arrangement of the portal triad?
portal vein is posterior, proper hepatic on the left, and bile duct on the right
Cholecystectomy, what is it?
a dissection through the hepatoduodenal ligament to reach the cystic A. which must be ligated before removing the gall bladder
What is the main route of lymphatic drainage for the gallbladder?
calot’s node
