Ru Xiang (olibanum)

A

“milk (nipple) fragrance / frankincense”

*invigorates blood, promotes qi movement, stops pain, generates flesh. known for ext. medicinal qualities in Dit Da Jows

enters qi level – more qi focused, invigorates blood powerfully

*extends to sinews

  1. invigorates blood, moves qi, stops pain, for TRAUMA pain due to blood stasis (often paired with Mo yao)

2. relaxes sinews invigorates channels, alleviates pain. for WD bi, rigidity, spasms

  1. reduces swellings and generates flesh
    i. topical ointment or pwd reduces swelling, generates flesh, promotes healing of sores,
    ii. used for skin infections with mo yao for chronic nonhealing ulcerations and sores

dose: 3-9g can be pwdered. less is better as higher dose can make patient feel nauseated, best to use topically, prepare with vinegar for int use

  3. Expels wind and promotes water metabolism: for nasal congestion, painful obstruction, edema with urinary difficulty
    —nasal issues for allergies

  1. Promotes movement of and tonifies blood: for blood xu patterns
  2. invigorates channels and relaxes sinews for numbness of extremities, back pain, knee pain, joint soreness from WD bi, with either blood xu or stasis
    —weakness of extremities in elderly, paralysis and vertigo due to blood stasis, wind-stroke
    —bi syndromes w blood xu
    —numbness, paralysis of limbs due to blood xu or stasis

Dose: 10-15g, can go as high as 30g in some cases
