Block 6 Unit 9 Flashcards
What are some way to identify Laser sources?
Intelligence, observations, interviews, survey
What are the 4 laser category’s ( where they would be found on a installation)
Medical, industrial, research, Combat reason (Military Specific)
What is Beam Divergence?
A laser hazard source that doesn’t allow the laser to widen significantly
What is Intrabeam viewing?
This is the most dangerous way and eye and be affected by a laser. which is when the laser enters the eye directly
What is Specular Reflection?
Depending on the class of laser it can reflect off a mirror like structure while maintaining its normal properties
What is Diffuse Reflection?
The least harmful of viewing lasers through a non reflective or even surface it breaks off and causes the laser to spread
What are the 4 classes of lasers?
Class 1 - the weakest of the lasers and is not expected to cause any harm if pointed into the eye or onto skin. A Class 3 or 4 can become a Class 1 if proper Controls are in place such as enclosed laser engraver
What is the laser class 2?
Class 2 - Laser that are low powered and visible. will cause harm is deliberately stare into laser
What is the laser Class 3
Class 3R - Now intermediate- powered lasers could be harmful if in direct and specular reflection and diffuse if eye is focused and stable. not able to set fires
Class 3B- Harmful under any viewing condition.
What is the laser class 4
Class 4 - High powered laser that are very harmful under any viewing conditions and skin contact also. Will have classifications to notify surrounding personals. Able to set fire
What is MPE and what does it mean?
MAXIUM PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE - Max level of laser radiation someone can expose without adverse effect
What is Nominal Ocular Hazards Distance?
NOHD is the distance along the laser beam
