Block 12 - Week 7 Flashcards

1
Q

Diazepam

A

Benzodiazepine (GABA receptor agonist )

anxiety , and muscle relaxant

Bind to benzodiazepine receptors (BR) - which Mediate sleep, affects muscle relaxation, anti convulsant activity , motor coordination and memory

Also BR linked to GABA receptors which causes CI- channels to open causing hyper polarisation and preventing further cell excitation

Q

Selegiline

A

Dopamine therapy (mono amine oxidase B inhibitor )

Treat Parkinson’s disease

Irreversible inhibit MAO- B which is involved in oxidative deamination of dopamine in the brain

Can also be used for treatment of depression as at higher levels it can also inhibit MAO-A
