Bleeding disorders Flashcards
What are some causes of bleeding disorders
Vascular disorders
platelet disorders: thrombocytopenia, defective function.
defective coagulation
What are the causes of vascular bleeds
problems with the vessel wall may be inherited or acquired: scurvy or steroids
What is haemophillia A due to
A deficiency of factor VIII
What is haemophillia B due to
A deficiency of factor IX
What does APTT assess
activated partial thromboplastin time: assesses the intrinsic pathway
What does PT assess
prothrombin time: assesses the extrinsic pathway
What are some other tests of coagulation
TT, fibrinogen level, factor level assay and bleeding time
What are some anti-coagulant drugs
latrogenic: heparin & warfarin
DOAC’s: direct thrombin inhibitors: dabigatran
factor Xa inhibitors: rivaroxaban
What factors are involved in the extrinsic pathway
factors 2,5,7&10
