16
Q

What is VWD?

A

Reduction in Von Willebrands Factor (normally aiding platelet adhesion)

TYpe 1 - AD - reduction - most common
Type 2 - Abnormal VWF produced
Type 3 - Recessive - complete absence

17
Q

How is VWD managed?

A

Tranexamic Acid in acute bleeding
Desmopressin - induces VWF release
Factor VIII infusion

18
Q

How does tranexamic acid work?

A

Prevents plasmin from degrading fibrinogen
