What is the problem with Haemophilia A treatment?
Patients can form an immune response against Factor VIII treatment - resistant
What is the difference between ITP in Children and Adults?
Children - normally acute and post infection/vaccine
Adults - Chronic
How does ITP present?
May be incidental finding on blood films
Petichiae
Purpura
Epistaxis
How is ITP investigated?
Bloods - Isolated Thrombocytopenia, and raised antiplatelet IgG
Blood Film
BM Biopsy (to rule out leukaemia)
How it ITP managed?
Prednisolone
Pooled IVIG if actively bleeding/pre op
What is TTP?
Deficiency in enzyme that normally cleaves multimers of VWF
Caused by pregnancy/SLE/HIV etc
How does TTP present?
Fever
Fluctuating neurological signs
Renal Failure
How does TTP present on blood tests?
Thrombocytopenia and MHA
