Bird Biology Test digestive and excretion Flashcards
Why do birds consume large quantities of food?
Birds need a lot of energy to fly for their migration
Why is a rapid breakdown of food necessary in a bird?
Birds need to maintain all that energy to fly
What parts of the bird’s body performs the functions similar to that teeth and jaws?
In the mouth food passes through the. Ouch cavity straight to the esophagus. An enlargement of the esophagus called the “crop” stores and moistens food.
What is the benefit of excreting waste which has very little water?
It’s more efficient and its light weight
Where does the water from the food go?
Most two kidneys filter a nitrogenous waste called urid acid from the blood. Very concentrated Uris acid then travels by ducts called ureters to the cloaca, where it is excreted in a semi-solid white mass
