Biotechnology | Lesson 9 Flashcards
Transcription
Creating RNA from DNA
Translation
Use RNA from DNA
DNA vs. RNA
DNA: A-T, C-G, bonded w/ hydrogen bond
RNA: A-U, T-A, C-G, copy of DNA
Protein Creation (promoter sequence, terminator)
Enzyme read DNA. Promoter sequence tell when germ starts.Terminator @ end. Transcribes into RNA match. Move RNA to cytoplasm to make proteins. RNA translated to amino acid sequence = protein
Chromosomes
DNA → coils around proteins → coiled into supercoils → coiled into chromosomes
Gene gun
Gene placed on gold shard and shot into plant
Agrobacterium
Bacteria take part of plant chromosome + insert DNA to make sick. Replace circular plasmid
Round up ready plants resistant to
Glyphosate
Bt
Genetically make plants larval bug resistant (started with corn)
Problems with RR
Can easily spread to other plants which can make weeds resistant
Problems with Bt
Can’t rotate pesticide so bugs become resistant
Horticulture: “moon” series, blue roses
- Pansy + petunia - lavender
* Hybrid tea rose
