Biostatistics and Calculations Flashcards
Data Types (ratio, interval, nominal, ordinal)
Ratio - continuous, meaningful 0
Interval - continuous, no meaningful 0
Nominal - discrete, name
Ordinal - discrete, order
Type I vs Type II Error
Type I: false positive (reject the null hypothesis when it shoul have been accepted)
Type II: false negative (accept the null hypothesis when it should have been rejected)
Risk calculation
number of subjects in a group with unfavorable event / total number of subjects in that group
Relative risk calculation
risk in treatment group / risk in control group
(x% AS likely)
Relative risk reduction calculation
1 - RR
(x% LESS likely)
Absolute risk reduction calculation
% risk of control group - % risk of the treatment group
Number needed to treat calculation
1 / ARR (round UP with NNT, DOWN with NNH)
How many mL in an ounce?
30 mL in 1 ounce
What is equivalent to 5 mL?
Teaspoon
How many ounces in a cup? cups in a pint? pints in a quart? quarts in a gallon?
8 ounces in a cup, 2 cups in a pint, 2 pints in a quart, 4 quarts in a gallon
How many centimeters in 1 inch?
2.54 centimeters in 1 inch
How many mg in 1 grain?
65 mg in 1 grain
Metric ordering
Kilo –>–> deca –base –> deci –> centi –> milli –>–>–> micro –>–>–> nano
BMI calculation
weight (kg) / height (meters^2)
IBW calculation
50 OR 45.5 + (2.3 x inches over 5 ft)
