Biomechanics Flashcards
Define hysteresis
Energy loss during loading is greater than what comes back during unloading so there is elongation
Define stress relaxation
Response to a sustained stretch that causes energy loss and allows elongation of connective tissue
Define creep
When we apply constant load we get elongation over time e.g stretching
Define viscoelasticity
The stress and subsequent strain in the muscle depends on the rate of loading
Define elasticity
The ability of the tissue to return to its original length after the stress is removed
Kinetics vs kinematics
Kinetics deals with body motion and the forces that cause it to move and kinematics describes body motion without regard to the forces that produce motion
