Biomechanics Flashcards
what is displacement
distance from start point to end point, eg around 400m track = 0
what is velocity
displacement / time
rate at which an objects displacement changes position,
what is acceleration
greater the velocity, greater the acceleration speeding up = positive acc speeding down = negative constant speed = 0 acceleration measured in m/s/s
key to balance and stability
Centre of gravity - weight towards centre of object
Line of gravity - line drawn from centre of gravity to ground, if centred then more stable
base of support - wide base = more stability
Fluid mechanics
Flotation. - objects ability to float determined by gravity and buoyancy
Fluid resistance - is drag force and occurs by friction between body’s surface and the fluid, minimise by streamlining their body shape
how body applies force
primarily through the muscular system and the skeletal system
how body absorbs force
force distributed over a large area hurt less than directed in a small area
changing the impact from direct to oblique, moving with the force eg tilting your head before punched
distributing force through flexing joints
