Biology Topic 6 Plants Flashcards
Word equation for photosynthesis
Carbon Dioxide + Water —–> Glucose + Oxygen
Symbol equation for Photosynthesis
CO2 + H20 —> C6H12O6 + O2
What is photosynthesis?
An endothermic reaction in which energy is transferred from the environment to the chloroplast by light
`The effect of light intensity on Photosynthesis?
provides energy needed for photosynthesis, as light level is raised, photosynthesis increases up to a certain point
What are the control variables RP6
Brightness of lamp, colour of light, Concentration of sodium hydro carbonate, Temperature, Length of Pondweed, species of pondweed
independent and dependent variables of RP6
D- Number of bubbles of oxygen produced
I- Distance away from lamp
What are ways we controlled variables in RP6?
- turned of lights in the room to reduce background light
- Controlled temperature with a room temperature water bath
Method for RP6
-Fill a boiling tube 2/3 full of sodium hydrocarbonate solution
- Put boiling tube in room temperature water bath
- Cut a 7cm piece of pondweed and place it cut side up in tube
- Place beaker 10 cm away from lamp and leave for 5 minutes
- After, count number of bubbles produce in one minute
- Repeat at 20, 30, 40 and 50
Effect of temperature on photosynthesis
Enzymes work slow at low temperatures, If too hot, enzymes will be damaged, increases up to a point
Effect of Carbon Dioxide concentration on photosynthesis
CO2 is a raw material needed, increases up to a certain point
Factors that affect the rate of photosynthesis
light intensity, CO2 concentration, temperature, amount of chlorophyll
