Biology Revision Flashcards
What is the function of the epidermal tissue?
It covers the plant
What is the function of the mesophyll tissue?
It carries out photosynthesis
What is the function of the xylem and phloem tissue?
It transports substances around the plant
What is the function of the muscular tissue?
It contracts, bringing about movement
What is the function of the glandular tissue?
It produces substances such as hormones and enzymes
What is the function of the epithelial tissue?
It covers some parts of the body
The human body has several organ systems. These include:
- The Digestive System
- The Nervous System
- The Respiratory System
- The Reproductive System
What is the function of the pancreas and the salivary glands?
They produce digestive juices
What is the function of the liver?
It produces bile
What is the function of the stomach?
It digests and churns up food
What is the function of the small intestine?
It digests and absorbs soluble food
What is the function of the large intestine?
It absorbs water from the undigested food and and produces faeces
What tissue do the xylem and phloem tubes make?
The vascular tissue
Why does the stomach need all three types of tissue to be able to digest food?
They need all three because:
- It needs the glandular tissue to cover the inside/outside of the stomach and protect the organ; it needs the muscle tissue because it needs to churn up food/juices; and it needs the epithelial tissue for juices used in the digestion of food.
