6
Q

What happens when the shoot top is exposed to light ?

A

More auxin accumulates on the side that’s in the shade than the side on the light in result the cells grow faster on the shaded side so the shoots bend toward the light

7
Q

What happens when shoots grow away from gravity ?

A

The shoots grow sideways so gravity is producing an unequal amount of auxins in the top with more auxin on the lower side in result lower side grows faster bending the shoots upwards

Q

True of faulse

A root growing sidewards will also have more auxin on its lower side

A

True
the roots inhibits auxin so growth
So the cells will elongate on top faster and the root bent downwards

10
Q

What happens when the roots grow towards the moisture ?

A

Uneven amount of moisture on either side of a root Produces more auxin on the side with more moisture so this inhibits growth on that side causing the root to bend in that direction towards the moisture

Q

How has plant hormones been used in agriculture ?

A

They affect broad leaf plants eg; weeds and they distribute their normal growth patterns which soon kills them but leave the crops untouched

14
Q

Why are some people against performance enchancing drugs? 2 reasons

15
Q

Why are some people for performance enhancing drugs?

A

Athletes or any of our can make their own decision

Sport is unfair as different athletes have different training facilities coaches and equipments

16
Q

What are statins ?

A

They are prescribed drugs used to lower the risk of heart and circulatory disease

17
Q

What is cannabis?

A

Cannabis is an illegal drug however scientist investigated whether the chemicals in cannabis smoke causes mental health problems

more scientific research still needs to be found

18
Q

What are the three main stages in drug testing?

A

The first stage is to test on human cells and tissue

Second stage is to test on live animals to see whether the drug works, toxicity and the best dosage

The third stage is to tesed on human volunteers in a clinical trial they split the group Into two group and one group is given the new drug whilst the other is on the placebo so the doctors can see the actual different the drugs making

19
Q

Why do people use recreational drugs?

A

Mostly for enjoyment relaxation or stress relief

Personal life

20
Q

Name the main legal recrational or drugs?

A

Smoking and alcohol

21
Q

What are the negative impact of smoking ?

A

Causes diseases of heart, lungs and blood vessel

Nicotine is addictive so it’s hard to stop smoking

22
Q

Negative impact on alcohol?

A

Affects the nervous system and slows down the body’s reaction

Excessive drinking can cause liver disease and brain damage

alcohol is addictive

23
Q

What is carbohydrates used for ?

A

To release energy for life process

24
Q

What is the function for fats?

A

To insulate us and release energy

25
Q

What is the function if protein

A

For growth and repair - for building cells

26
Q

What does metabolic rate mean ?

A

Is the speed at which chemical reaction takes place in the body

27
Q

What factors affect metabolic rate?

A
Age
 gender
Amount of ex exercise
Inherited factors eg cholesterol level
Amount of exercise
28
Q

What does obesity mean ?

A

Obesity is being 20% over the maximum recomended body mass

29
Q

What is bacteria

A

Bacteria are very small cells which reproduce rapidly in your body making you feel ill by damaging your cells and producing toxin

30
Q

What is viruses ?

A

Viruses are not cells- they replicate themselves by invading your cells and reproducing your cells and reproducing until your cells burst creating a new viruse

31
Q

3 ways your human body defence system reacts and explain

A

Consuming them- white blood cells can engulf the foreign calls and digest them

Producing antitoxin

Producing antibodies

32
Q

Explain the process of vaccination ?

A

Vaccination involves injecting a small amount of dead or in active micro organism which carry antigens these cause your body to produce antibodies to attack term so if the microorganism of the same type of appear the white blood cells will Rapidly mass produce antibodies to kill the pathogen

33
Q

Adv of vaccination

A
  • help control lots of infectious diseases

- epidemic can be prevented

34
Q

Disadvantages of vaccination

A

Vaccines don’t always work

- some people may have a bad reaction
