A
  • partially contained cabinet with a glass sash leaving 8-10 inches open for working
  • min 2 HEPA filets
  • may be vented outside or back into room
  • high degree of protections
  • used in non- research medical labs

A
  • completely sealed and exhausted to outside after HEPA filtration
  • air from outside is filled before brought in thru HEPA
  • always exhaust bac outside
  • used for airborne contaminants , TB, Ebola, anthrax, research
  • at least 2 HEPA filters, usually 3

A
  • used for chemical storage and work to draw irritating or toxic chemicals up and away from operator
  • no HEPA filters- no biological protection
  • used for parasite and histology processing, reagent preparations, or is solvent is toxic or flammable

Cleaning Safety Cabinets

A
  • done using alcohol (bleach will cause corrosion)
  • can use gluteraldehyde - inhalation irritant * must have cabinet running which defeats the purpose if vented back to room*
  • if vented to room must use 70% isopropyl alcohol - HEPA filters checked annually
  • have have UV light installed for sterilization
