What are the 5 parts of a flower?
Receptacle, Sepal, Carpel/Pistil, Stamen, Petal.
What purpose does the pistil serve?
female reproductive system of flower.

Stigma, Style, Ovary.
What purpose does the stamen serve?
male reproductive system of flower.
Name 2 parts of the stamen.
Anthers, Filament.
What are the 5 parts of a seed?
vascular, tissue, cotyledon, hypocotyl, radicle, seed coat.
What is a seed?
a mature ovule of a plant.
What is the difference between a monocot and eudicot seed?
Eudicots have two cotyledons in the seed and the endosperm is absorbed into the cotyledon; Monocot endosperm stores nutrients.
Name 2 parts of the fruit.
pericarp, seeds.
What are the 3 major types of fruits?
simple, aggregate, multiple.
Describe a simple fruit.
one flower, one carpel. Example: cherry.
Describe an aggregate fruit.
one flower, many separate carpels. Example: blackberry.
Describe a multiple fruit.
multiple flowers, multiple carpels. Example: pineapple.
What are pneumatophores? Why are they important?
Pneumatophores are adventitous roots that grow above land. Snorkel roots help access more gases, especially oxygen.
What happens to plants in the Winter?
Annuals die; seeds survive to make new plants in the Spring. Perrenials’ underground storage organs to store energy until Spring. Water freezes, so plant stops growing, no longer absorbs water, and transpiration decreases.
