Bioenergetics Flashcards
What are some of the limiting factors for the rate of photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide availability, water availability, site intensity, availability of magnesium ions therefore chlorophyll and lastly temperature.
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2
Why is temperature described as a self-limiting factor?
This is because the graph is a big upside-down view. This means that there is an optimum, but after the optimum, the graph goes down. This is because enzymes denature at a higher temperature.
What is the definition of respiration?
Is the transfer of energy from glucose, which occurs in every single cell in the body
What are the two main types of respiration?
An aerobic and aerobic. In animals and Arabic ears, glucose to lactic acid, but in plants it is glucose to ethanol and carbon dioxide
What is oxygen debt?
Amount of oxygen needed to break down accumulated lactic acid.
