Q

What is the formula of index diversity

A

D= N(N-1)/ E n(n-1)
D= index diversity
N=total number of organisms of all species
n= total number of organisms of one species
E=sum of

Q

There are 3 different species of flower in this field red species, blue species, white
There are 11 species altogether
There are are 3 of the red species 5 of the white and 3 of the blue
What is The index diversity

A

N= 11
n= 3,5,3
d=N(N-1)/ E n(n-1)
D= 11(11-1)/3(3-1)+5(5-1)+3(3-1) =3.44

Q

How can farming techniques reduce biodiversity so a balance between conservation and farming

A
  1. Destruction of hedgegrow- increase area of farmland- destroyhabitats and species food source
    2.pesticides-chemicals that kill organisms that feed off crops- any species that feed off pests loose food source
    3.herbicides- chemicals that kill unwanted plants- reduces plant diversity and reduces food source for organisms that feed of weeds
    4.monoculture-fields only contain one type of plant- support fewer organisms as a food source or habitat
    5.woodland clearance- increasing area of farmland - reduces trees so destroys habitats and food source

Q

Genetic diversity within or between species can be made by comparing what

A

the frequency of measurable or observable characteristics
the base sequence of DNA
the base sequence of mRNA
the amino acid sequence of the proteins encoded by DNA and mRNA

Q

A sample data is used to draw conclusions about the whole population
Therefore a sample needs to random, how can that be

A

You can use a random number generator eg when needing coordinates to find a sample size in a field by a grid
This ensures variation and sample isn’t due to chance
