- heat
positive test - blue to green/yellow/ red/organge depending on conc. of reducing sugar

- add distilled water

- follow negative reducing sugar test
- add dilute HCL acid and boil to hydrolyse bonds
- cool and then add sodium hydrogen carbonate to neutralise
