Bio3 Flashcards
What is in the digestive system
Salivary glands: produce enzymes
Liver:produces bile
Stomach:digestion happen here
Pancreas: produces digestive enzymes
Large intestine:water is absorbed and poo is formed
Digestive enzymes
Amylase breaks down the starch into glucose
Protease breaks down protein into amino acids
Lipase breaks down lipids into fatty acids +glycerol
The ranks of oragans
Cells>tissue>organ>organ system
Musclecell>glandular tissue>heart>dig sys
Enzymes lock and key theory
Enzyme molecules have an active site ,a substrate molecule fits into that active site (like a lock and key) when the enzyme becomes denatured (it can only become denatured after it has reached its optimum temperature)the substrate can no longer fit in the active site
Small fact about bile
Bike is an alkaline so it neutralizes hydrochloric acid made by the stomach ,it also emulsifies fat breaking it down into tiny droplets
what is plasma
Plasma is a yellow liquid it transports cells and it transports liquids around the body
What do red blood cells do
Transport oxygen around the body through blood vessels they contain haemoglobin and have no nucleus
What are white blood cells
They are part of the immune system they have a nucleus and are larger then red blood cells
What are the 2 types of white blood cells
Lymphocytes , produces antibodies that’s bind to pathogens and destroy them
Phagocytes, engulf and destroy
