Bio2 Flashcards
What to remember about mitosis
Mi-2-sis makes two cells
Mitosis makes cells that are genetically identical to the parent
Stages of mitosis
The cell grows
Replicates it’s dNA to form two copies of each chromosomes
One set of chromosomes are pulled to each end of the cell
The nucleus divides
Cell membrane and cytoplasm divide
Two identical cells form
What is a stem cell
Undifferentiated cells in an organism
(They can produce many more cells and specialized cells by differentiation )
What is diffusion
Diffusion is the spreading out of particles producing a net movement from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
What is osmosis
Osmosis is the movement of water potential from an area of higher concentration to low concentration in a partially permeable membrane
What is active transport
Movement of molecules from an area of low concentration to high concentration with the use of energy (for respiration)
