15
Q

Where in the chloroplast do the light reactions take place? Where does the calvin cycle take place?

A

Light reactions take place in the thylakois while the calvin cycle takes place in the stroma.

16
Q

What is the role of rubisco?

A

It puts carbon and RUBP together

17
Q

How are hydrogen ions used in the production of ATP?

A

The built up of hydrogen ions in the stroma makes it negatively charged. The difference in the charge and hydrogen concentration creates ATP.

18
Q

Be able to describe the events of the electron transport chain.

A

NADH and FADH2 are transported to the electron transport chain which is a series of carrier proteins. Electron pump H+ ions throughout the membrane of the mitochondria. The H+ is pumped into a higher concentration and are then diffused back through the inner membrane. They go through ATP synthase which creates ATP.

19
Q

Be able to list the products of the calvin cycle.

A

G3P, ADP, and NAD+

20
Q

A unit of energy

A

Calorie

21
Q

breaks down glucose into two molecules of pyruvate that occurs in the cytoplasm

A

Glycolysis

22
Q

The process by which cells use oxygen to produce ATP/Energy from food

A

Cellular Respiration

23
Q

works as a shuttle bus, transferring electrons from one molecule to another within cells to carry out all sorts of reactions and processes.

A

NAD+

24
Q

the production of energy in the absence of oxygen or a process that allows glycolysis to continue making ATP when oxygen isnt present

A

Fermentation -

25
Q

Without oxygen

A

Anaerobic

26
Q

WIth oxygen

A

Aerobic

27
Q

respiration process that uses oxygen and produces carbon dioxide, water and ATP

A

Krebs Cycle

28
Q

An electron transport chain is a series of protein complexes and other molecules that transfer electrons from electron donors to electron acceptors

A

Electron Transport Chain

29
Q

What is the net yield of ATP from cellular respiration?

A

2 ATP

30
Q

What is the role of NADH and FADH2?

A

NADH hold the electrons together until they can be transported to other molecules. FADH2 transports electrons generated in Glycolysis and Krebs Cycle to the Electron Transport Chain

31
Q

list the products of glycolysis.

A

Pyruvic adic, ATP, and NADH

32
Q

write the chemical equation for cellular respiration.

A

C6H1202 + O2 = CO2 + H2O + Energy

33
Q

What are the three products of alcoholic fermentation?

A

Alcohol, CO2, and NAD+

34
Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of glycolysis?

A

It allows the cell to produce ATP quickly and does not require oxygen. However, the net gain is very low, only producing 2 ATP. Also, ATP cannot be stores for a long period of time.

35
Q

What is the role of coenzyme A?

A

It produces energy.

36
Q

describe how active transport is used during the electron transport chain.

A

Active transport is when there is energy being used to transport something, During the electron transport chain, energy is being used to transport electrons.
