Bio 6 - Genetic Lab Techniques Flashcards

1
Q

What is Gel Electrophoresis?

A

To sort and separate PCR products according to size. An electric current is passed through it and the smaller fragments of DNA travel the farthest down.

Q

What is PCR?

A

Polimerase chain reaction. It is a way to implify a specific sequence of DNA. There are three steps to it: Denaturation (heat the DNA so that the two strands separate). Annealing (cool the DNA and add DNA primer). Elongation (the DNA polymerase starts to replicate the DNA).
