Binocular Refraction Flashcards
advantages to binocular refraction
“more” normal environment, provide additional tests for binocular vision anomalies, pt’s that cannot undergo binocular balancing techniques
Turville Infinity Balance (TIB)
apparatus divides left and right eye - basically monocular refraction without occlusion
TIB steps
- preliminary test 2. balancing accommodation 3. Lateral imbalance (exophoria first, esophoria second) 4. vertical imbalance 5. suspension and supression
TIB preliminary test
“L F” chart - L left eye F right eye
TIB preliminary “E” response
fused - eyes diverged - add BI prism until seperate
TIB preliminary “L” response
suppressing R eye
TIB preliminary “F” response
suppressing L eye
polarization
process of turning unpolarized light into polarized light
polarized chart
chart in which a polarized letter is used on a normal background
polarized letters
letters which reflect their light rays only in one direction
Perpendicular to polarized letters
light blocked - black symbol/white background
parallel to polarized letters
light passes - white symbol/black background
