dx

A

recurrent episodes of binge eating: more the normal in 2 hr time period, lack of control
binge eating episode associated with 3 or more: rapid eating, eating until uncomfortably full, eating large amounts of food when not physically hungry, eating alone bc embarrassed about how much one eats, feel disgusted with oneself, depressed, very guilty after
marked distress regarding binge eating
1/wk for 3 mo
not associated with recurrent use of inappropriate compensatory behavior as in bulimia and does not occur exclusively during bulimia nervosa or anorexia nervosa

epidemiology

A

most common ED
F, genetic, hx trauma, hx food insecurity, impulsivity and reward sensitivity, low self esteem, body dissatisfaction, difficulty coping with feelings
other psych disorder (phobias, PTSD, OH abuse/dependence)

psych: individual/group CBT, DBT, support groups
use unhealthy weight rather than “weight problems”, “heavy”
