What is the motivation for adding new dimensions to BIM in a ‘nD’ BIM format?
Normal BIM focuses on the initial construction phase of a project which only accounts for 10-20% of the lifetime cost. nD BIM shifts the focus towards facility management which can be more sustainable.
What is 6D BIM?
6D BIM is 5D BIM + sustainability. It looks at energy estimates and lifecycle analysis that allows teams to make improvements earlier in the design process to consider their impacts. It switches the focus from capital to operational costs.
What is 7D BIM?
7D BIM is a digital way of facility management by tracking specs, maintenance manuals, warrents etc. This can create spend profiles for the operational part of its lifecycle and preplan maintenance. It is making a switchi from reactive management to proactive.
What is GIS and how is it used in BIM?
Used to look at the larger picture with maps, elevations, existing infrastructure. It supplies information about assets in the built and natural environment.
