Q

describe the sliding filament theory

A
  • Ca2+ ions released from sarcoplasmic reticulum into sarcoplasm
  • Ca2+ diffuse & bind to troponin changing tertiary structure cause tropomyosin to move exposing myosin head binding sites on actin filament
  • myosin head bind to actin binding sites forming cross bridges
  • mysosin head “nods” pulling actin filament short distance (power stroke)
  • ADP+Pi released from myosin head
  • new ATP bind to myosin head, breaks cross bridge seperates from actin, action of ATP hydrolase, energy released recocks myosin head
