Diazepan (Valium): What should I avoid while taking this drug?
Things that cause you to be nervous like caffeine and stimulant drugs. Also this drug can make you drowsy so don’t preform task requiring alertness.
Alprazolam (Xanax): When and how should I take it?
Once in the a.m and swallow only
Alprazolam (Xanax): What does it do and other routes
Reduces anxiety and panic disorders.
It can be given siblings like if the pt can’t swallow.
Chlordiazepoxide (Librium): What does it treat and what shouldn’t I take it with?
Treatment: controls withdrawal symptoms r/t acute alcoholism
Don’t take it with: grapefruit juice - increases drug toxicity
Clorazepate (Tranxene): What does it rx
Anti-anxiety
Alcohol withdrawal
Epilepsy
Flurazepam (Dalmane): What is it used for & nursing intervention?
Rx: short term insomnia rx only taken at bedtime
NUR: observe pt for dizziness and orthostatic hypotension
Lorazepam (Ativan): Use
Rapid tranquilizer for pt experiencing agitation.
IV route reduces n/v, anxiety and induces amnesia.
Midazolam (Versed): use
Preoperative sedation and mechanical ventilation
Triazolam (Halcion): use and when to take it
Tranquilizer with a rapid onset to be taken only in bed
